Compassionate Support for Your Unique Mind

Living with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) means experiencing the world through a uniquely wired brain—one that brings remarkable creativity and insight alongside the challenge of navigating systems not designed for how you think. At Polaris Psychology, our ADHD therapy focuses on understanding and healing the deeper emotional impacts of living as a neurodivergent person in a neurotypical world, rather than simply managing symptoms.

What Makes Our Approach Different:

  • We view ADHD as neurodivergence, not a pathology to “fix”, honoring your unique way of experiencing life
  • Focus on emotional healing over just symptom management, processing years of invalidation and misunderstanding
  • Identity exploration beyond diagnosis, understanding who you are as a whole person
  • Relational insight and attachment, exploring how ADHD has shaped your relationships and sense of belonging
  • Depth-oriented therapy, moving beyond surface-level coping to meaningful understanding and growth
  • Trauma-informed understanding, recognizing that chronic invalidation can create deep wounds deserving of therapeutic attention

Understanding the Deeper Impact

Many of our clients come to us feeling exhausted—not just from ADHD itself, but from years of trying to fit into systems that weren’t designed for their minds. Perhaps you’ve spent years hearing “just focus” or “try harder” when you were already giving everything you had.

For many neurodivergent individuals, navigating a world built for different brains becomes a chronically invalidating experience. Years of being told to “just focus,” “be more organized,” or “stop being so sensitive” can create profound emotional wounds distinct from typical ADHD symptoms.

This ongoing invalidation can feel traumatic—leaving you questioning your worth, your capabilities, and your place in the world. The constant message that who you are isn’t quite right can lead to anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and a deep sense of not belonging anywhere.

At Polaris Psychology, we understand that addressing ADHD means addressing these deeper emotional wounds. Our ADHD therapy creates space to explore not just how ADHD affects your daily life, but how years of misunderstanding have shaped your sense of self.

When Your Mind Works Differently

Your ADHD brain brings remarkable gifts—creativity, intuition, deep empathy, and unique problem-solving abilities. Yet living with these gifts in systems designed for different minds can create profound emotional challenges that go far beyond typical symptoms.

These aren’t consolation prizes or silver linings—they’re genuine neurological gifts that contribute immense value to the world.

Our first meetings focus on creating a therapeutic relationship where you feel truly seen and accepted. We’ll explore your unique ADHD experience, what brought you to therapy, and what healing might look like for you. There’s no agenda to fix or change you—only to understand your inner world more deeply.

  • The gifts and challenges of neurodivergence: honoring both your natural strengths and daily struggles
  • Chronic invalidation and its emotional impact: healing from years of “not fitting in”
  • Identity beyond pathology: discovering who you are and when ADHD isn’t framed as a disorder
  • Relationship patterns: understanding how neurodivergence has shaped your connections with others
  • Existential questions: exploring belonging, purpose, and authenticity in a neurotypical world
  • Trauma-informed healing: addressing the deeper wounds that chronic misunderstanding can create

As trust develops, we’ll dive deeper into exploring how ADHD has shaped your sense of self, your relationships, and your place in the world. This might include processing difficult experiences of invalidation, understanding patterns that no longer serve you, and gradually reclaiming parts of yourself you may have hidden.

People with ADHD often possess remarkable strengths that include:

  • Creative thinking and innovation: seeing connections others miss and generate unique solutions
  • Hyperfocus: the ability to become deeply absorbed in meaningful work
  • Emotional depth and empathy: feeling deeply connecting authentically with others’ experiences
  • Spontaneity and adaptability: embracing change and thinking on your feet
  • Passion and intensity: bringing extraordinary energy to causes and relationships that matter

Beginning therapy is a courageous step toward deeper self-understanding. At Polaris Psychology, we create a warm, judgment-free space where you can explore your inner world and heal from years of invalidation at your own pace, without pressure to change or “fix” yourself.

Healing Without Judgment or Pressure

Many clients come to us after years of feeling criticized, misunderstood, or pathologized.

You might find yourself feeling understood in ways you haven’t experienced before. This therapeutic relationship itself becomes a corrective experience that can shift how you perceive yourself and navigate the world.

Many clients discover that they can build the life they truly want to live—one filled with genuine meaning, authentic relationships, a sense of mastery over daily challenges, and the freedom to pursue what matters most to them without constantly fighting against their own nature.

Our therapeutic space is designed to be the opposite.

We follow your unique process rather than a rigid treatment protocol. Your brain and your history are unique, which means your path to healing will be too. We don’t force you into a pre-set model; we adapt our integrative approach to fit your specific needs, experiences, and goals.

Insight and healing happen naturally and can’t be rushed. There is no external timeline for this work. We create a supportive, patient environment where you have the space to explore, process, and integrate new understandings without pressure or judgment.

Your intensity, sensitivity, and different ways of thinking are honored, not “managed.” We see these traits as core parts of your identity, not symptoms to be suppressed. This is a safe space where you can be your full self without fear of being seen as “too much” or “too sensitive.”

We help you feel more at peace with who you are while building trust in your own capabilities. By untangling your identity from past criticism, you can start to see your own strengths clearly and build a stable, internal sense of self-worth that doesn’t depend on external validation.

You can learn to connect with others from a place of genuine self-knowledge, not from a place of masking or performance. When you understand your own needs and communication style, you can express them clearly, set boundaries, and build relationships that are truly reciprocal and supportive.

Telehealth ADHD Therapy Sessions

Why telehealth works well for ADHD therapy: Our secure video sessions allow you to engage in therapeutic work from the comfort and familiarity of your own space. Many clients with ADHD find telehealth particularly beneficial because it eliminates common barriers like transportation challenges, executive functioning demands of getting to appointments, and the sensory overwhelm that can come with unfamiliar environments.

Engage in therapy from your own safe space, whether that’s your home office or your living room. When you don’t have to navigate an unfamiliar building or a clinical setting, your nervous system can remain settled. This allows you to be more present and open from the first minute of your session.

For many, the stress of an appointment begins long before it starts. Telehealth removes the logistical hurdles of a commute, like planning for traffic, finding parking, or worrying about being late. You can join your session feeling calm and present, rather than arriving already feeling overstimulated and on edge.

Real therapeutic progress is built on momentum. Telehealth makes it significantly easier to keep your appointments, even with a demanding career, changing family needs, or when traveling. A 53-minute session fits into a 53-minute block, removing the buffer time required for a commute and making consistency achievable.

Your healing journey is your own. Telehealth removes the need for a public waiting room and eliminates any chance encounters, offering a layer of privacy that many clients find essential. You can speak freely from a space where you are guaranteed to be alone.

Finding a therapist who truly understands your specific challenges, like adult ADHD or autism, can be difficult. Telehealth removes geographical barriers, giving you access to our specialized, doctoral-level team from any of the 44+ states and territories we serve.

An ADHD brain is highly attuned to its surroundings. An office with harsh lighting or distracting sounds can create sensory overwhelm or derail focus. Telehealth puts you in complete control. You can adjust the lighting, sit in your most comfortable chair, use a fidget, or have a pet nearby-whatever you need to optimize your space for focus and emotional safety.

A: Yes. Many of our clients are adults who come to us after years of feeling misunderstood, criticized, or misdiagnosed. Our therapy is specifically designed to explore your ADHD story, process these emotional wounds, and help you integrate this new understanding into your identity, which is especially relevant for late-diagnosed individuals.

A: Instead of just focusing on symptom management or surface-level coping skills, our approach is depth-oriented. We focus on understanding and healing the deeper emotional impacts of living as a neurodivergent person in a neurotypical world, processing the years of “chronic invalidation” that often lead to anxiety and a fractured sense of
self.

A: Absolutely not. Our foundational view is that ADHD is a neurodivergence, not a disorder to be fixed. Our therapeutic space is warm, judgment-free, and moves at your pace, without pressure to change or “be more normal.” We honor your unique way of thinking and help you learn to accept your true nature, not mask it.

A: Yes. Research shows that online therapy is just as effective as traditional in-person therapy for most mental health concerns. Many clients find the comfort, convenience, and privacy of their own familiar environment makes them feel more relaxed and open.

A: These are two distinct services. Our ongoing therapy is offered via secure telehealth video sessions to explore your identity and heal from emotional wounds. Our assessments are comprehensive, in-person evaluations (at physical locations) designed to provide diagnostic clarity, rule out other conditions, and provide documentation for accommodations if needed.

A: Each 53-minute session is $250. We do not accept insurance directly, but we can provide you with the necessary documentation (a “superbill”) to submit to your provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We also accept FSA/HSA accounts.

A: We find telehealth is highly beneficial for many clients with ADHD. It removes common barriers like transportation challenges, the executive functioning demands of getting to an appointment, and the sensory overwhelm of new environments. It allows you to do deep, therapeutic work from the comfort and safety of your own familiar space.
