Therapy for Teens

Parent concerned about their struggling teen seeking therapy help from Polaris Psychology

Is Your Teen Struggling and You’re Unsure How to Help?

Has your once-happy teen become withdrawn, irritable, or harder to reach? Perhaps you’ve noticed their schoolwork slipping, or they seem to be losing interest in activities they once loved. Maybe there’s been a blow-up at home—a tense argument or a sudden outburst—and now things feel even more uncertain. Or perhaps the changes have been more gradual: your teen seems distant, lost in their own world, and you’re left wondering what happened to the child you knew.

You may be noticing how these struggles are affecting the rest of your family—dinner conversations feel tense, your teen is spending more time alone in their room, and your own stress levels are rising as you try to make sense of it all. You might even be finding it hard to stay focused at work, worrying about your teen’s well-being, or feeling overwhelmed by how to support them.

Whatever the situation, you’re here because you care deeply about your teen and want to find the right kind of help for them.

What to Expect from Therapy for Teens

Therapy for teens at Polaris Psychology is designed to provide a supportive and effective path to emotional well-being. Here’s what you can expect during the process:

  1. Initial Clinical Intake Appointment
The first session is an opportunity for the psychologist to get to know your teen. We’ll discuss their experiences, concerns, and goals for therapy.

  2. Weekly or Biweekly Sessions
Following the intake, regular therapy sessions will be scheduled. During these sessions, your teen will have the opportunity to talk through their thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

  3. Collaborative Treatment Plan
Therapy is a collaborative process. Your teen will work together with their psychologist to identify goals for therapy and develop coping strategies for managing challenges. Whether it’s improving mood, addressing anxiety, or working through social or academic stress, we’ll create a plan that works for them.

  4. Confidential and Respectful Communication
Teens are often concerned about privacy. At Polaris Psychology, we respect the confidentiality of our clients, ensuring that what’s discussed in therapy stays between your teen and their psychologist (unless safety concerns arise). This helps foster trust and openness.

  5. Ongoing Support
Therapy is not just about resolving immediate concerns—it’s about equipping your teen with long-term skills to manage future challenges. We’ll work with your teen to build resilience, confidence, and emotional strength.

By the end of the process, your teen will have the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence and emotional clarity.
